Earth Engine EP

DangerWelch When most bands have this diverse a sound it's labeled as "genre-bending" and is inevitably accompanied with a sense of pretension and sterility. These cats, however, seem to just shrug and play their asses off while ignoring genre pitfalls entirely. Also, hats off for creating an EP this full of texture and theatricality that doesn't let layers and overdubs overshadow the songs. Favorite track: The River's Red.

Remain 04:56
when the waters rise and the sunlight hurts your eyes when the wires die and a panic fills the sky when everything has changed my love for you will remain when the mountain falls and the buzzards call out our names when the oceans weep and the towers crumble in shame when everything has changed my love for you will remain lyrics, MR

umbilical pulsations feed the machine so full (umbrella heaven) a one world denomination keeps it in control the River's red, and overflowing higher copulating capillaries spilling over illusionary causes and reason undefined (umbrella heaven) network, syntax, error cut permission - axiomatic access denied the River's red, and overflowing higher copulating capillaries spilling over recycle your soul ...umbilical pulsations lyrics, MR

Joy Blue 04:12
superficiality always try my best to be for the sake of brevity on the right side of talking head reports just one of the faces seated in a daybed reformation no time to argue tell me i am good enough i want to be good enough tell me that i try too hard i'll fix myself for you and you and you and my outward intonation slips into exit in the sky i feel like dying joy blue spirals upon themselves heaven opens up beneath me Elohim; the Royal We pry back the fingers of the godhand reach euphoria blinded eyes of Varuna (the name knows no nation) stuck android insomnia don't forecast what i disclose for fear of my own riposte (i hear the sound of) joy blue spirals upon themselves heaven opens up beneath me Elyon everything was ending and everything was fine but now it's starting over not another life spare me the journey i've been there before a millenia ago the Anunnaki smiles up sweetly and everything is over lyrics, MR

indigo bleeds from eyes of green lost in a dream, a fever of static screens that cold cosmic whisper of televised cries chartreuse your embargo, our satellite dies my winter has deceived me so murder me my sunshine, wither, wilt, and scathe colloquialize my mind and burn these tears away cauterize my mind and burn, burn, burn fuck me red and white and i'll kiss you so purple under pink moonlight if i could die a thousand deaths, then i'd try them all on for size my winter has deceived me so murder me my sunshine, wither, wilt, and scathe colloquialize my mind and burn these tears away cauterize my mind and burn, burn, burn

Year One 05:15
eighteen years since life betrayed the light and reason now the sunshine hurts my brain disappeared for twelve, but now i'm home so father tell me how to make them afraid if i ring the bell, he will come and i thank you but i'd rather die than wait fear the weight of idle hands sat through the season but this winter never seems to change a filtered rage, i was never one to yield to reason and nevermind how i spend my nights if i ring the bell, he will come and i thank you but i'd rather die than wait a city of goats and fools - i will not be one i will not be one catalyst of chills up the necks of heartless joes i will be the one if i ring the bell, he will come and i thank you but i'd rather die than wait, give me a sign i'm lyrics, MR

about

Earth Engine Detroit, Michigan

"Earth Engine’s EP is a spastic, satiated cluster of baroque rock that has wrangled a plethora of genres and in the process created their own." - audiofemme.com

"It’s never a straight shot -- more like a deliberate detour. The structured chaos is just enough to make sure you won’t walk away." - vocoyd.blogspot.com
